The Scholarship is to be awarded to a member that you feel exemplifies a “TRUE HORSEMAN”. It is someone who pursues this sport for the love of the horse and only the passion for the animal. This person goes above and beyond for the care of his or her horse, or others’ horses; is a source of positive energy in the barn; and would sacrifice for the well being of the animal. Financial need is not a necessary component for eligibility, although it may factor in when deciding the recipient.

Recipients Highlights

Kimberly Pokstis- College Education Scholarship

"I was awarded the College Education Scholarship for the 2017 season, as a freshman at Stony Brook University. The scholarship will supplement my education as I study as a biology major on the Pre-Med track. I am incredibly grateful to the Western Hudson Valley PHA for providing scholarships such as this one that allow local riders to do more than their own financial abilities allow." -Kimberly

Alyssa Dorfman- Bonny Lass Memorial Scholarship

"Receiving the Bonnie Lass Scholarship Award was so special to me. I was lucky enough to have known Bonnie and she was always the epitome of horsemanship. To have been recognized in her name was an honor. I do the things I do because of my love for horses and my love for the sport. To have that be recognized by my trainers, when I thought no one was watching, was more meaningful than I can put into words. Receiving this award only gives  me more motivation and ambition to continue bringing positivity to the sport and to others." -Alyssa
